The Sickos Present: The Tragical History of Modesty City
The Secret Project a year in the making revealed at last
It’s finally here. The project we’ve spoken of in whispered tones since July 2020. Behold The Tragical History of Modesty City: A Play in Five Acts.
Yes, folks, we wrote a five-act play with an 85-page script, hired a full cast, recorded the entire thing, and filled it with pro-level SFX and audio engineering. It is the best, funniest thing we’ve ever done. If anyone knows where to submit podcast episodes for awards please do that. Also if you know the guy who makes podcasts popular tell them to listen to it.
It is absolutely surreal to be talking openly about this and sharing it with you all. Part of the fun of the whole process was keeping it a secret, giggling to ourselves how silly it all was that we were putting so much effort into a *play* that no one asked for or would expect from us. We are ostensibly an anime chat show, remember.
Yesterday we premiered the play on Twitch. Joe and I have been so close to this for so long we weren’t sure if it was actually good or not anymore, and turns out: it’s actually extremely good and everyone loves it.
If you’re interested in the script, you can check it out right here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YmAOGEhNYXLTaYO5z95fK-ARzqPnLyPhuqRLKIZ2QJI/edit?usp=sharing
Of course, we couldn’t do this alone. Audio engineer Adam Goron is far and away the MVP. I would wager he was more instrumental in this play coming out so well than I was for writing the script. His ability to take vocal tracks recorded on a bunch of mics of wildly different make/model/quality and make it sound natural is incredible. He made the entire thing come to life with frankly virtuosic SFX design. This dude owns!
Casey Toney also did a one-scene “guest editor” appearance for Act 5 Scene 1, putting on an absolute sound design clinic that is one of the best parts of the play. He is so good at this stuff, it’s like he is some sort of “tech wizard.”
We also are continually blown away by our amazing cast: Vince White, Andrew Sherman, Gwynn Fulcher, Mike Hasier, James Medley, Allie Reid, and Dylan Mullins. Every one of them should win some kind of podcast award imo.
And finally, thanks to our patrons for allowing us to spend so much money on this thing, and thanks to all of you for listening. It feels really good and creatively fulfilling right now. Your support means a lot.
Your friends,
Da Sickos
